Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers keep us going! We are a participatory organization with many opportunities to become involved. Join us to learn something new and meet other people passionate about restoring the American chestnut.

Types of opportunities:

Orchard help – With nine orchards in Connecticut, the growing season is packed with chances to participate in planting, inoculating and harvesting at our orchards. Work is available for all levels of physical ability. This is a great opportunity for people who enjoy working outside and getting involved with the hands-on aspects of our breeding programs.

Event representation – Each year, we attend events all over the state. Members volunteer their time to represent our organization at fairs, expos, festivals, plant sales, etc. Larger events, with more than one volunteer present at a time, are great for learning the ropes. This is a great option for people who like to learn more about our organization and also enjoy sharing their knowledge with others.

Speaking events – We receive requests to speak at meetings and events nearly every week, for much of the year. Our volunteers help by agreeing to speak on our behalf, sharing their knowledge with community groups and organizations all over the state. This is a great opportunity for people that enjoy speaking in front of groups and sharing their knowledge and experiences with the American chestnut.

Administrative/ Office assistance – From time to time we can use help producing office related items such as newsletters, web-site articles, taking event photographs, and assisting with the mailings. We have one large newsletter mailing each year and other projects that could use an extra hand. If you are nearby and interested in helping, let us know and we can put you to work!

Keep in mind that no experience is required for any of these opportunities. We can always pair you with a more experienced volunteer or get you the proper training to be involved at whatever level you are comfortable with.

How to get started:
It’s easy!
Members can sign up on our e-mail list for notices regarding upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Anyone is welcome to submit an interest form to inform us of your interest in volunteering with us. We can then let you know when opportunities are available that match your interest.

Always feel free to call our New England Office with any questions or to inquire about opportunities. 802-999-8706
