The Connecticut Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation is a Chartered State Chapter with its own Bylaws, Constitution and Treasury. It is organized as a non-profit foundation under the US Tax Code 501(c)3.
As an integral part of the TACF Research Program, we have an infrastructure to support the Research Orchards and efforts to find, validate and pollinate pure American chestnut throughout the native range, especially CT. These advanced back-cross nuts are then planted and grown in CT's TACF Research Orchards.
To help provide the organization with focus and measureable metrics for success, we put a significant effort into developing a Strategic Plan. This was adopted at the 5/9/2006 meeting of the Board of Directors. We consistently refer to the goals and implementation steps outlined in that strategic plan to ensure resources are properly committed.
Like any volunteer run organization, the organizational structure evolves constantly as new members join in and bring expertise in specific areas as outlined in the Chapters Strategic Plan. Focus is on pollination of native CT American chestnut using advanced back-cross breeding material, and then the cultivation of that material and selection for resistance and forest quality material. A look at the chart of organization makes it clear that these two areas are our primary focus.
