A group of Connecticut Chapter volunteers descended on the Salem orchard on April 14th, and planted about 200 nuts before dark on a beautiful day. Fifty of the nuts were from a native American Salem tree. These nuts were harvested last fall and lovingly cared for over the winter by Leila Pinchot, and have already shown high germination rates. CT-TACF and Northern CT Land Trust Prepare Test Orchard Site

On April 17th, volunteers from the Northern CT Land Trust (NCLT) and CT-TACF joined forces to prepare a section of NCLT?s Swann Farm for possible use as a chestnut orchard. Located in Ellington, the Swann property has been preserved as working farmland and also helps provide income for NCLT?s land preservation activities. The site offers excellent access to well-drained Narragansett silt loam soils adjacent to a forest with numerous chestnut sprouts. [More]

Lecture on Restoring the American chestnut in Connecticut

Bill Adamsen, President of the CT Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation will lecture and host a discussion on the natural history of the chestnut, and the Foundation's efforts to capture the diverse genetics of local trees in their breeding efforts. This lecture will take place on April 27th at 7:00PM at the Oliver Wolcott Library on South Street in Litchfield, CT. The lecture will cover the natural history of the tree, tree identification, how to save a tree with blight and current research programs into creating a blight resistant tree.

February 10th	Connecticut Chapter (CT-TACF) Board Meeting from 10am-1pm. Woodbridge Community Center, all are welcome to attend. Contact Bill Adamsen or Leila Pinchot for more information. First order of business will be review and approval of last meeting's minutes.
February 22nd - 25th	Connecticut Flower and Garden Show at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. Come help tell others about CT-TACF. Contact Pat van de Kamp or Leila Pinchot for more information.
April 14th (April 15th Rain Date)	Salem Land Trust. Come help plant our second year's crop of CT-TACF Backcross Chestnuts in the Salem Orchard. Contact David Bingham or Leila Pinchot for more information.

CT Audubon Hosts Chestnut Harvest Party

The Connecticut Audubon Society Coastal Center announces an autumn Chestnut Harvest Party. Learn about the history of the American Chestnut while enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving dinner including chestnut cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, acorn squash, green beans, cranberry sauce, dessert and of course a turkey.
